Ouch! 10/04/08
By David from San Antonio, TX
I had already "mastered" the Bas Rutten MMA workout when I got this, so I was pretty confident I would make it through The Pit without too much struggle. Dumb.
Bas' C.D.s give a good overall cardio workout, but it is something of a one trick pony.
The Pit Boxset concentrates on one area, exhausts it, pushes you farther, then repats in the next area. For example, the upper body workout has a section with kicking, and the lower body workout has a punching section. This is great for recovery so you don't get sloppy late in the session.
Some of the simple exercises, they count every rep for you. But I like how many of the drills are timed, so you find your own pace and aren't chained to the rate of the video.
All the discs did a good job of warming you up, working you out, burning you out, then cooling you down. The half hour Cross Pit programs have a stretching regimen at the end. The longer workouts leave the stretching to you.
Drawbacks? Well, Hackleman can't count, for one. Or was that five? ;-) Naw, he knows what he's doing. There is a lot of talking. My instructors tell me that is my chance to rest! I thought the upper body workout didn't need the second set of burpees. Well, you sure get your money's worth! Definitely worth the investment.
